I Know Some Things about Baseball
An acrostic poem
This poem was inspired by a personal patron–level subscriber of mine, who has the ability to choose a theme for the month with that subscription level. I either write a full poem on the theme, sprinkle it throughout the month, or both. His theme was “baseball,” as it is that time of year. Here’s that poem:
You'd think I don't know about baseball. Well, I almost got into baseball. Got real close a few summers, watching it, baseball. I know enough from those days reading the paper on baseball. And enough to write an acrostic poem about baseball. And enough to write a six-line AAAAAA-scheme stanza, with all As being "baseball." Bases, balls, base-on-balls (or whatever that stat is called) America's pastime Smelly socks Entertaining, once you learn about pitching Best-behaved players in sports Average hits above 30% is excellent Lose the pitch timers, please! Less boring than golf
Today I’d like to draw your attention to Suzie, who writes A Sonnet for Jane. She’s especially skilled at short, vivid stanzas that capture the imagery tied to relatable human experiences.
And I’d like to mention my subscriber chat, I feature I recently discovered and started on my own page. I’ve been using it to discuss the publishing industry with subscribers.
