Hiatus
(Not a poem)
(I thought a bear would be nice here. Bears hibernate, and I’m sort of hibernating . . . anyway, I thought of that reason after I decided to find a picture of a bear for this post.)
Hey faithful and unfaithful readers of Poems at Twilight,
I’ll be posting and making notes less often on here. It’s almost a hiatus, and not quite. More of a very intentional repurposing of the blog.
I’m happy with my work overall. Still, although this has been a fun way for me to “perform,” often that performance has been half-baked. I spitball in notes and write barely finished poems in posts. For every concept I explore I leave huge potential for further development unrealized for the sake of “getting it out there.” In part because of that, I find that the content I put out is pretty juvenile. Not in the sense of silly poems—in the sense of immature, petty, something that would come from a whiny child. You get the idea.
Practically speaking, I’ll be devoting my time to editing, seeking more opportunities as a developmental editor, and to honing my craft at writing poetry and prose. Rather than post on a schedule and write a note every day, I’ll post and write notes when I have a complete, more-or-less “finished” concept, something I’d be happy seeing in print. And for the four people who pay me, I’ll still do commissioned poems every month (although you all missed the deadline for April, so I had nothing to write about then anyway).
I value growing as an artist, and for me that means practicing intentionally and developing ideas to their completion before displaying them for applause. I have some exciting ideas to develop as a writer, and I’m looking forward to writing both prose and poetry. Future prose will come via the Literary Spitball page on the Substack blog website for Poems at Twilight. That might not be for a few months, and that’s all right with me.
And when I see something and think of a funny, uplifting way to “perform” in that way, I’ll still do the occasional silly note. Just so long as it’s something I wouldn’t mind seeing in print.
The bottom line is that there are no more Tuesday and Friday posts. There’s only the commissioned poems once a month, and sporadic posts as I create things that I both see as complete and see as worth publishing in a public way. Thanks for your support.
